About
us
Artmatters is the
website of Commatters, a communications consultancy firm founded
in Nairobi in 1997.
Artmatters exists for
the enlightenment of humanity on the way of life and trends
in the visual and performing arts in Kenya and East Africa.
This is done through journalistic-not abstract academic sounding-
reporting, discussion, analysis, and profiles of players in
the arts fraternity.
It is hoped the site will
enable any one interested in the arts-the public, musicians,
actors, writers, filmmakers, fine artists, designers, sculptors,
trainers, publicists, models, promoters, funders-to network
for symbiotic relationship and for the benefit of the arts in
the eastern Africa region. As the only medium devoted exclusively
to the arts, Artmatters hopes to flaunt creativity and not hide
it in voluminous publications or make it a brief in long and
winding broadcasts as is currently the practice in this region.
This site, therefore, strives to highlight and popularise the
arts in Kenya and East Africa.
The founder of ArtMatters,
communications consultant Ogova Ondego, is an experienced writer
and critic who has his finger on the pulse of the arts in Kenya.
Through contacts established while serving virtually every print
media in Kenya on culture and the arts, Ondego provides you
with reliable information. He currently writes for international
media and runs weekly special human interest features on the
national broadcaster, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.
